M’athchomaroon! If you came looking for David J. Peterson’s Tumblr, you found it! Sadly, it is no longer being maintained. If you’d like to find out what I’m up to now, check one of these places:

Yes, you read right: I’ve started an AO3. Does that mean I’m writing fanfiction? No, I’m afraid not. Instead, for those who followed this Tumblr specifically for my posts on dialogue on the various shows I’ve worked on (e.g. after the episode airs I post all the dialogue with translations), you can now go there. I’ll continue those posts there, and tag the relevant fandoms in the tags. If I ever want to write something else language-y, I’ll probably do so there as well, and then I’ll tweet it out. I can’t imagine that I’ll be as active there as I was here, but it’s nice to know there’s a place I can go to put out something longer than a tweet.

As for Tumblr, it’s been amazing. From becoming Tumblr famous overnight due to reblogging a post about life hacks (yes, that literally happened), to discoursing on spoons, to now, it’s been an amazing half a decade (maybe more?). I’m still easy to find on the internet. If I come to your home town, let me know and we can say hey.

For now, though, a fond farewell from me and little Roman. Ai gonplei ste odon.

Anonymous asked:

Am I a dog?

dedalvs answered:

Look, I keep getting this question, so I’m going to answer this once and for all: I will NOT do your homework for you! I know it’s a part of your take home midterm from Prof. Sparky’s Species Studies class. I also know that I did author the book The Embarkening: The Commodification of Canine Culture and the Modern Reification of the Leash—and yes, it did shake up the field, I’ll admit. I will sign your copy if I see you—I’ll even go for a walk with you, if I have the time—but I will not do your work for you. Plus, if you want to take this class seriously, I would encourage you to truly engage with the question. Because when an assignment asks you whether or not you are a dog, it doesn’t mean anything by it. It can’t mean anything: It’s an assignment. Whatever meaning there is in the question begins and ends with you. You have to bring your experiences and opinions to the question to give it any meaning. You have to tease apart the very notion of being to even approach anything resembling an answer. You have to express yourself in a way that no one else can, because no one else is you! And let me make this clear: While there will be meaning in your long form response, there is no meaning in a simple “yes” or “no”. If that’s the kind of answer you were hoping for from me, you can rest assured that even if I provided it to you, it would offer you absolutely no insight into the question.

So, then, anonymous student, I will turn this around and ask YOU: Are you a dog?

The floor is yours.

if you’ve seen the breaking news that trump just signed an executive order today to end the family separation policy here’s some quick info to keep things in perspective

  • this doesn’t end the “zero tolerance” policy of prosecuting anyone who crosses the border “illegally”
  • the only thing this changes is that going forward, entire families will be detained together while awaiting prosecution
  • this offers no solution for freeing the thousands of children currently held in ICE child prisons or any path to reuniting them with their families
  • children will still be detained and treated as criminals
  • this will likely lead to thousands of families being held in ICE facilities and tent cities that will face the exact same issues of overcrowding, abuse, and inhumane conditions that exist in the child prisons

this is not a victory or a solution. This is the administration trying to cover their asses and avoid any more public outrage. They want people to see this as the end of the news story and go back to their lives. They want people to forget the thousands of children they are still keeping in cages in ICE facilities across the nation. This issue is not over and we cannot stop being outraged until we are given proof that the thousands of kidnapped children are returned to their families, and that the policy of arresting and prosecuting people who cross the border is ended.

Linked article published and updated June 20, 2018. Also, I was reading the linked article, saw another article link, and:

Though President Trump declared that the executive order he signed Wednesday would “solve” the problem of family separation while parents are prosecuted for illegal border crossing, the order is really only good for 20 days, CBS News’ Paula Reid reports, citing a source familiar with the drafting of the order. The order does not override the 1993 Flores v. Reno Supreme Court case, which says that detained migrant children cannot be held in government detention facilities for more than 20 days.

Essentially, this means that after the 20-day mark, children may still be separated from their parents.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) currently separates most families when they are apprehended for illegal border crossing, Reid notes. But now, with the executive order, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) will take custody of the entire family. However, at the 20-day mark, under the Flores consent decree, the department will have to release the children from custody.

Nothing in the executive order stops the government from releasing the whole family, Reid says, but under Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ zero-tolerance policy, which states that the U.S. will prosecute all who cross the border illegally, releasing the family is unlikely.

Reid also reports that Sessions is expected to immediately ask a federal California judge to modify the Flores consent decree to permit the government to detain families together throughout the entire prosecution and deportation processes.

It is unclear how long this will take to litigate or whether the judges would be willing to permit indefinite detention of minors.

This means that Congress is still under pressure to reach a more lasting solution, and President Trump said that the administration would still be working with Congress to fix the problem.

CBS News’ Nancy Cordes reports that most lawmakers do not view the order as a permanent fix, and many believe that either congressional legislation will have to fill in the gaps, or the Trump administration will need to back down from its zero-tolerance policy.

The executive order does not undo or diminish Sessions’ zero tolerance policy, which has caused the spike in parent-child separations at the southern border.

everyone who writes their ‘7’s with a little dash through them had a conscious moment of truth where they actively chose to write ‘7’ in that way and never stopped doing it like if you can’t clearly recall that fateful decision wyd

When I was in kindergarten it was with loops, by 1st grade it had a point, I recently went back to a loop(in college) cuz my hand writing made it look like a z. Same thing happened with four, as when I was in kindergarden it looked like this:4 then I started writing it with it being open. I started writing 7 with a hook & a cross also because of my hand writing(and it needs to be clear for math -.-).
